Streamer-Phrases™
The Phrases feature makes it easy to personalize your Streamer™ accounts
With Streamer’s Phrases feature you can (1) create command shortcuts, (2) have a personalized set of notes to insert into transcripts, and (3) create phrases that Streamer™ will speak aloud using your personalized voice.
User Tip: Each phrase is grouped into your choice of seven colors. In the side panel of your Streamer room, the Black category is displayed first so you will want to use that category for the phrases you use most often, followed by Green, Blue, Purple, Brown, Gold and Red.
User Tip: It is easy to import existing Phrases into your account. You do this using a Streamer Template along with the /cloneuser command. Here are instructions on how to do this, and here is a list of several templates
User Tip: When you are in one of your rooms, the title of each phrase is shown in your side panel. If you hover your mouse over that title, you will see a popup box displaying the entire phrase. If you cannot see the side panel, in the Streamer Settings menu select the Show Side Panel option.
Let’s step through each of the three ways you can use the Phrases feature:

  1. Command Shortcuts:  It is easy to create shortcuts for commands that you frequently use. This way you do not need to type them every time. Instead, just click on your shortcut. First, we will show you how to create a set of personalized shortcuts, then cover how they are used, and third show you how to copy commands from a template. To view a video showing this go to https://streamerlink.cc/Command-Shortcuts.

    1. Create the Shortcut
      • Open your Account Settings page by clicking on the "person" icon near the upper right corner, and select the Phrases tab.
      • Enter a label for the new shortcut, then the command itself, and pick a color category. For example the title may be, Clear the Text, with the command being, /clear and the color Black.
      • Click “Add Phrase” and your shortcut is ready to use. Create as many phrases as you like, there are no limits.
      • When you are done, close the Account Settings tab.
    2. To Use a Command Shortcut
      • Return to the Streamer™ room where you see the captioning. The Phrases/Shortcuts you just created are shown on the right-side panel. If the side-panel is hidden, select the Show Side Panel option in the Streamer Settings menu.
      • Click on the shortcut. If it is a command with no arguments (such as the /clear command), double-click on the shortcut and the command is processed. If it is a command where you need to enter one or more parameters (such as the /allow @user command), then single-click the command, enter the parameters in the command line bar, and press “Enter” on your keyboard.
    3. To Import Existing Command Shortcuts to your Account
      • In addition to creating your own shortcuts, you can also import commands using Streamer's template feature. To do this, type the following into the command bar:  /cloneuser phrases @template-commands

  2. Personalized Notes:  You can use Streamer™ as a note-taking system. It is easy to insert notes directly into the captioning as it is happening. These are private notes that only you will see and save; no one else can see your notes. Use this feature to tag important areas of the transcript. You can type notes from scratch, as well as create your own set of customized notes that are entered with a click of your mouse. First, we will show you how to create a set of personalized notes/phrases, then how they are used, and third how to copy a set of note-taking phrases from a template.

    1. Creating Personalized Notes
      • Open your Account Settings page by clicking on the "person" icon near the upper right corner, and select the Phrases tab.
      • Enter a label for the new note, then the note itself, and pick a color category. For example, the label may be, Ask about this, with the note being, Ask about this item - I didn't understand what everyone was saying, and the color could be Red. Use the colors to categorize your notes into different areas such as one set for due dates, another for questions you have, and a third for follow-up actions.
      • PhraseBuilder™ -- You can also create notes with placeholders to insert words. This gives you flexibility in your notes, and it is much faster than typing or writing the entire phrase from scratch. Phrases can have as many placeholder slots as you want, and they can be located anywhere within the sentence(s). An example with a single PhraseBuilder™ slot is, I need to complete this by ____.  You can use the slot to quickly insert a note that says,
        • I need to complete this by 10 AM, or
        • I need to complete this by tomorrow, or
        • I need to complete this by Oct 3.
      • Create as many phrases as you like; there are no limits.
      • When you are done, close the Account Settings tab.
    2. Inserting Notes into the Transcript
      • Return to the Streamer™ room where you see the captioning. The Phrases/Shortcuts you just created are shown in the right-side panel. If the side-panel is hidden, select the Show Side Panel option in the Streamer Settings menu.
      • Just the labels for the Phrase are shown rather than the phrase itself. To see the entire phrase, hover your cursor over that label.
      • To directly insert a note into the transcript, double-click on the phrase. To modify a note before it is inserted (such as a phrase with PhraseBuilder™ slots), single click, make the modifications, and press enter on your keyboard.
      • User Tip: When saving a transcript where you have entered notes, we recommend using Microsoft's Word DOCX format. That way the color-coding of the categories will be saved.
      • User Tip:  You can also type (or write) completely new phrases directly in the text box. First type the phrase, then click on the Group/Private toggle that is located at the right-edge of the text box (the small white square), and click Send. Note that the toggle box turns green, meaning the entry is now a private note versus an entry that others can see.

    3. Import Existing Phrases for Notes To Your Account
      • In addition to creating your own custom note-taking phrases, you can also import existing ones using Streamer's template feature. To do this, type the following into the command bar:  /cloneuser phrases @template-notetakers

  3. Speech Generation:  A third way to use the Phrases tab is for speech generation. You can easily create a customized set of phrases that Streamer™ will speak for you in your personalized voice, and do so in most any language. To create these phrases, follow the same steps described above in the Personalized Notes section. Note that you can use fixed phrases, or phrases with placeholders, and these phrases can be as long as you want including full paragraphs. Here is how you use these phrases:
    1. Using your Phrases to Generate Speech
      • Open your Account Settings page by clicking on the "person" icon near the upper right corner, and select the Phrases tab.
      • Only the labels for the Phrase are shown rather than the phrase itself. To see the entire phrase, hover your cursor over that label.
      • To have a phrase spoken aloud, single-click on the phrase, make any desired modifications, click on the Group/Private toggle that is located at the right-edge of the text box to turn it white (the small square), and click Send (see the above figure). Note that if the toggle box is set to a color other than white, it is a private note versus an entry that others in your conversation can see and hear. Your guests will hear that phrase spoken on their computers (note they need to select the “TTS” option on their Streamer Settings menu for the voice to be spoken). This way it is easy for them to hear what you are saying, even in noisy situations. To have the phrases also spoken aloud on your computer, see the User Tips in section b below.
    2. User Tips for Speech Generation
      • You can also type (or write) completely new phrases directly in the text box: first type the phrase, then click on the Group/Private toggle to make it white (see figure above), and click Send.
      • Use the up arrow on your keyboard to quickly re-enter phrases. If someone says, can you repeat that, just click the up arrow and then Send.
      • Your guests can hear your phrases spoken on their computers. This is a very nice feature as it is easy for them to then hear what you are saying, even in noisy situations or during a remote meeting such as Teams or Zoom. To do this, they simply need to select the “TTS” option on their Streamer Settings menu. They will then hear your phrases spoken in the voice you have selected.
      • To also have the phrases spoken aloud on your computer use two browsers: a Chrome browser to caption what others are saying and for you to enter your spoken phrases, and a second browser (e.g., Edge, Firefox, Safari, etc.) to have your phrases spoken aloud. In that second browser go to the Streamer Setting menu and turn on the TTS. In this setup you can collapse the second browser so it is hidden and just view the captioning in the Chrome browser.
    3. Import Existing Phrases for Speech Generation To Your Account
      • In addition to creating your own set of custom speech generation phrases, you can import existing phrases using Streamer's template feature. To do this, type the following into the command bar:  /cloneuser phrases @template-speechgeneration
